Chapter 69.2

Could this sensation be described as anything other than love? With a gaze suffused with his own brand of tenderness, he regarded Yi-soo. Among all the variables Jin-won had encountered, Seo Yi Soo was the most captivating and potentially disruptive. Any interference from anyone was utterly intolerable.

Except for her. A rather romantic notion, isn’t it? His reverie was abruptly shattered by an urgent cry from elsewhere, drawing all attention to a new development.

“Attorney! We’re in deep trouble! It seems those damn bastards have caught wind of us. We need to hide that prosecutor woman we abducted… Damn it…” A man bounded up the stairs, his curses barely contained. With tattoos adorning his imposing frame, he exuded an air of intimidation.

Rushing to inform Jin-won of the police searches, the man was met with a shocking revelation. As all eyes fixated on him, the man with the crew cut took a nervous step back. “Oh, sh*t…”

Without a second glance, his face drained of color, the man turned and bolted down the stairs. “Park, get him!” Park, positioned near the entrance, wasted no time in pursuit.

Once the commotion subsided, Se-young raised the taser gun once more. With that revelation, Kang Jin-won’s criminal activities had been irrefutably exposed. However, Detective Ahn couldn’t help but hesitate.

Jin-won let out a weary sigh. “You’re making this unnecessarily difficult.”

“Kang Jin-won, lower the gun. Escalating the situation will only worsen your sentence!”

“Discussing sentencing in front of a lawyer? That’s what I despise the most—those who disrupt plans. I’m so irritated that I might lose control. To the point where I want to kill you all.” His tone was laced with a chilling resolve.

The cold touch of metal against her skin sent a shiver down Yi-soo’s spine. With the gun pressed against her forehead, Jin-won regarded her with a vexed expression.

As chaos erupted around them, Jin-won’s suppressed frustration boiled over like a volcano. Though he refrained from rash actions in the presence of the police, the emergence of an unforeseen variable in his meticulously laid plans ignited impulsive agitation.

His obsession transcended mere disorder, morphing into a burning desire to eliminate any threats to his schemes. The urge to pump bullets into the bald man’s skull surged within him, his head throbbing as if prodded by a dagger from behind. He emitted a lazy laugh, lips curling into a smirk.

“With things taking this turn… perhaps it’s time to reverse the plan. It’s better to confront the ambiguity head-on than to skirt around it. Let’s start by eliminating my puppet,” he mused aloud.

“What is your objective? Release the gun immediately, Kang Jin-won,” Hyun-seong interjected, stepping forward with a furrowed brow. The police officers, including Se-young, looked on in surprise.

While Hyun-seong had observed the situation cautiously from the sidelines, he had no intention of recklessly intervening, even with Yi-soo held hostage. However, Detective Ahn realized that dealing with Kang Jin-won required a different approach. He wasn’t merely an ordinary individual but a hardened criminal. Trying to reason with him seemed futile.

With clenched fists, Hyun-seong surveyed Yi-soo’s condition, his heart aching as if being torn apart at the sight of her pale face. His neatly trimmed nails dug into his palms.

“Ah, Attorney Yoon. I assumed you would remain a bystander… Are you stepping forward because she’s your woman?” Jin-won’s taunt was met with a stern reprimand.

“Kang Jin-won!”

“As for what I want… Attorney Yoon will have to figure it out for himself. You’ll need to provide a satisfactory answer. As you can see… I’m not in my right mind.” With a pleased expression, Jin-won’s hand hovered over the gun.

Hyun-seong released a heavy sigh. The instinctive fear of Jin-won pulling the trigger surged through Yi-soo’s entire being. Yet, she fought to control her breathing, determined not to betray the overwhelming emotions coursing through her. Though tension threatened to overwhelm her, she held onto faith in Hyun-seong, believing he wouldn’t allow her to come to harm.

Yi-soo steadied her trembling breath, her gaze locked on Hyun-seong’s resolute expression as he spoke in a low voice, his anger barely contained. “Tell me what you want. Anything. Just spare her. Money? Yoon & Kang? I’ll offer you anything, as long as you leave her unharmed.”

His offer was genuine. If sacrificing Yoon & Kang’s future leadership position could save Yi-soo, he would willingly do so. However, Jin-won’s chilling laughter hinted at a deeper desire.

“In this world, are there any promises that can’t be sealed with words, Attorney Yoon Hyun-seong?” With a dark, hollow gaze, Jin-won lowered the gun, aiming it at the floor.

“Kneel. Before me.”
